K-2 Ipad Distribution Set for Monday September 14,2020

Hello Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade Students and Families,

Following our distance learning last spring, HCPA worked to collect feedback from our families on what was successful and what was most challenging about learning from home.  As a result of this feedback, HCPA has been working to implement new structures and tools for our K-2 students in order to make distance learning more successful this fall. Some of these tools include new Apple iPads for all K-2ndgrade students and a new kid-friendly system, Seesaw, for online learning.  We hope that you and your student will find them easy to navigate and mange this school year. 

Because we will be using new systems and because we know our K-2 learners need extra guidance and support, our first two weeks of school have been structured differently. Our goal is to ensure that you and your student get to know your child’s teacher, the expectations. and the technology of distance learning well before diving into reading, math, and more!

This week (September 8th– 11th), teachers are meeting with you and your students in kindergarten, first and second grade to build relationships, explain expectations, answer questions, and set students up for success in Distance Learning.

Next week, on Monday, September 14th, HCPA will be hosting iPad and distance learning material pick up for all kindergarten, first, and second grade students from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The layout will be similar to our 3rd-12thgrade orientation – all families will drive into our parking lot, receive paperwork and login information at our fieldhouse, and then pull under the ramp to receive your device(s) and materials. Then, there will be staff available to help you and your student login to the iPad and Seesaw and to get connected to the things they will need for distance learning.  Feel free to bring your students along!  We will also be holding an opportunity for all first gradersto complete some of their fall-assessments onsite with a teacher and for any kindergartenerto finish their incoming student testing on the same day. If you need your kindergartener to complete their testing or if you would like your first grader to to finish their one-on-one assessments onsite, you can call the school to make an appointment for Monday or drop-in to test on that day.

In the week following the pick-up (September 15th-18th), students will have activities and tasks to complete on their iPad and will have a chance to join their teachers live in Zoom sessions so that they can start to build the routines processed of navigating and learning on their iPads. 

On Monday, September 21st, the regular schedule for K-2ndgrade students will begin with live lessons from their teachers starting at 8:00 a.m.

We hope that this schedule helps to support you and your student to start the school year and distance learning in a positive manner.  While we know this is a unique start to the year, our goal is to facilitate great learning with your student no matter what scenario we are in!
