HCPA K-2nd Grade Student and Family Orientation

Hello Parents, Families, and Caring Adults,

It is hard to believe that our 2020-2021 school year is only days away! You are receiving this letter because you have an HCPA student(s) in kindergarten, first, or second grade.  Following our distance learning last spring, HCPA worked to collect feedback from our families on what was successful and what was most challenging about learning from home.  Based on your feedback, HCPA will be implementing new structures and tools for our K-2 students in order to make distance learning more successful for the fall. Some of these tools include new Apple iPads for all K-2 students and a new kid-friendly system, Seesaw, for online learning.  We are excited for these new opportunities and we hope that you and your family are as well!

Because we will be using new systems and because we know our K-2 learners need extra guidance and support, orientation will be structured differently. Our goal is to ensure that you and your student get to know your child’s teacher, the expectations. and the technology of distance learning well before diving into reading, math, and more! Please read the following orientation information carefully as it outlines actions and events for the first two weeks of school.

Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd Grade Orientation Schedule

August 28th

Kindergarten Orientation from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at HCPA.  This will be an opportunity to complete necessary paperwork and student testing, learn more about the school year, and have some kindergarten fun!

August 27th -  September 7th

During these days, your child’s teacher will contact you to schedule a phone meeting or video conference to meet you and your student.

September 8th - 11th

For the first week of school, you and your child’s teacher will meet over the phone or via video conference.  They will get to know you and your student.  Additionally, they will discuss the distance learning schedule, expectations, and answer any questions you may have.

September 14th - 18th

iPad pickup and training will be held for all K-2 students and families.   Students and Parents will pick up their Seesaw login information and get connected to their iPad.  Throughout the week, students will be online and will have tasks geared toward getting to know the iPad, Seesaw, and other tools that will help them throughout the year.

Dates and times for your pickup will be posted on the school website as the week approaches.

September 21st

Monday, September 21st will be the first day connecting live with teachers and classmates from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Students who receive special education services will be contacted by their service providers during the weeks of September 8th and September 14th to provide indirect service minutes and to support parents in establishing schedules and coordinating instruction.

We hope that these new tools and our specialized K-2 orientation schedules will help to support you and your student to be as successful as possible during distance learning this fall.  If you have any questions or concerns about distance learning or our K-2 orientation schedule, please feel free to contact us at 651-209-8002.  We look forward to a great year of learning together!

Yours in Learning,
