Benefits of HCPA Employment

At Hmong College Prep Academy, we know that good talent needs to be celebrated and well compensated.  HCPA offers a highly competitive salary and believes in rewarding outstanding teachers in a variety of ways, including annual merit raises based on individual and school-wide performance.

Employee Benefits Package

  • HCPA offers an employee benefit package that includes coverage for medical, dental, vision, life and AD&D, long term disability.

  • Flexible Spending Account – The FSA is a tax-advantaged account allowing employees to set aside a portion of earnings to pay for qualifying expenses, including medical and dependent care expenses.

  • Life and Disability Insurance – HCPA provides each full-time employee with $50,000 of life and AD&D (Accidental Death and Disability) insurance plus long-term disability insurance. HCPA pays 100% of this cost.

  • Health Savings Account - Employees qualify for the employer-paid HSA contribution by electing a minimum of $24 per year ($1 per pay period). Those enrolled in Employee Only coverage receive $600 annually, while those with Employee + Family/Spouse/Child(ren) coverage receive $1200 annually.

The following additional coverage options are available on a voluntary basis at group rates:

  • Additional Life and AD&D

  • Critical Illness Insurance

  • Accident Insurance

  • Short Term Disability

  • Legal Shield and Identity Shield

Retirement Plan

  • HCPA participates in both the Teacher’s Retirement Association (TRA) and Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) and contributes the state-regulated percentage of payroll to each eligible employee’s account. HCPA matches contributions as follows: TRA (Employee pays 7.75% and HCPA pays 8.75%), PERA (Employee pays 6.5% and HCPA pays 7.5%).

  • Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan (457 Plan) is a tax-deferred retirement plan that is funded exclusively by employee contributions.

    • It allows you to set aside a portion of your salary on a pre-tax basis to supplement your mandatory retirement plan and social security.

    • You will not pay any federal state income taxes on the amounts you contribute or on your earnings until the funds are withdrawn from your account.

Paid Time Off

  • Through a combination of federal holidays, HCPA winter, spring, and summer breaks, and paid time off hours, HCPA offers school-site staff a generous amount of paid time off.

  • HCPA also “pays out” a portion of an employee’s earned but unused personal hours each year and/or offers the option to carry forward limited hours to next school year.

Family and Parenting

  • HCPA is 100% compliant with FMLA and Minnesota Parenting Leave.

Laptop

  • Employees receive a laptop computer for their professional use during the school year.

Loan Forgiveness

  • Teachers at HCPA still paying off federal student loans may qualify for loan forgiveness on Stafford loans or have Perkins loans cancelled.

Stipends

  • Teachers can receive an additional stipend for serving in HCPA afterschool programs, teaching summer school, and other school-approved programs.
